The Story
A jewelry Masterpiece inspired by the white lion
The profile of the lion has been the ever-lasting symbol of Grand Seiko, introduced in 1960 on the case back of the first Grand Seiko timepiece. Honoring this enduring icon is SBGD213, the second Grand Seiko jewelry Masterpiece inspired by the white lion following the release of 2022's SBGD209.
No fewer than 112 diamonds are embedded in the surface of the platinum 950 case, and 60 baguette-cut diamonds adorn the bezel. A brilliant-cut sapphire is set into the crown. The diamonds on the bezel and the lugs are set so precisely that they appear to create a single flat surface. The strong and angular lugs speak to the lion's form, and the case is treated with a type of Zaratsu polishing specifically developed for platinum to achieve Grand Seiko's signature distortion-free finish.
The dial features tapered blue sapphires and baguette diamonds to serve as the hour and minute indexes, surrounding a mother-of-pearl center rendered in blue. These gems are meticulously set by hand between a very thin pair of 18k white gold rails by the most skilled craftspeople from the Shinshu Watch Studio’s jewelry studio. 48 additional diamonds and 12 blue sapphires are individually set around the markers to further enhance the dial. The seconds hand is tempered to a gray color.
Inside this sparkling creation is Caliber 9R01. This exemplary Spring Drive movement is produced by a dedicated team at the Micro Artist Studio. It offers an accuracy of 10 seconds per month and an 8-day power reserve, and it is truly the embodiment of Grand Seiko's horological mastery.
SBGD213 is a limited edition of 8 watches.
